Getting dental implants is a big commitment, or so our Quincy dentist tells you. To make sure the implants stay in good shape, and the surgery does not fail, our Quincy dentists advise patients to make some major lifestyle changes. In fact, our Quincy dentist gives his patients a list of things to do before, during, and even after the surgery. Part of this list are a number of activities that patients should avoid, especially in the days after getting their dental implant surgery. If you too, are about to get your implants, it is advisable that you read this:

1. Smoking- smoking is one of the top reasons why dentistry implants fail, and that should be reason enough for want you to quit altogether. However, if you ever insist that you can’t next we will insist you at least stop it for just two straight weeks from your surgery date. Smoking really affects the best way your blood is, that will even affect how rapidly your surgical wound can heal. It is extremely damaging your wound, so please refrain from the cigarettes!

2. If you ever normally wear other dentures, prosthesis, or night guards, it is advised that you really keep them off when surgery, until your dentist provides the go signal to start wearing them again. These things are especially dangerous if they touch the implant online site. The material can rub against the sutures, and take them off, or worse, cause an even bigger cut, or quite possibly infection!

3. Don’t try to inspect the implant area- if you are curious about your implants and you definitely want to see what the implant looks like. Please do not feel as free to inspect the area. It is normal for our gums to be swollen in the beginning, so you may not see it, but inspecting the place could cause damage, more cuts and infection.

Stick to these warnings for a better dental implant success rate. It’s the least you can do after all the pain and most of the spending that you’ve been through!
